The Vision: Function Meets Elegance

Our client approached us with a clear yet discerning brief: to create a two bay oak frame garage that would serve not only as secure storage for estate maintance, but also an area for enjoying the long summer evenings. They sought something far beyond a standard outbuilding, the vision was a garage delivering modern day functionality and enduring value with the new outdoor space.

Design Process: Tailored to the Landscape

Every site tells its own story, and one of the great strengths of oak frame construction is how gracefully it adapts to its surroundings. From the outset, we worked closely with both the client and their architect to ensure the new garage would complement, not compete with the existing country home and surrounding gardens.

Careful attention was paid to roof pitch, elevation, and overall footprint. Traditional joinery techniques, authentic green oak beams, and black cladding were selected for it's unmistakable warmth and character.

Key features of this build included:

• Two closed bays with exposed arched braces, and electric garage doors

• A large open pergola integrated into the design

• Handmade clay tiles on the roof to blend with the main house and surrounding area

• Mortice and tenon joinery with oak pegs,

• Brickwork plinth, softernering the look of the garage and pergola

One of the great benefits of using green oak is its sustainable nature. Sourced from responsibly managed woodlands in the UK and France, the oak will weather gracefully over time, developing the silvery tones that many clients desire.
